CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test)

Paper 1 (Class 1-5) 12th with 50% + D.El.Ed / BTC / B.Ed
Paper 2 (Class 6-8) Graduation + B.Ed (or equivalent)

Education Path

Step-by-step education requirements to become eligible

Pass 12th with 50%+

Any stream. 50% marks required (45% for reserved categories). This qualifies you for D.El.Ed admission.

D.El.Ed / BTC (for Primary)

Diploma in Elementary Education — 2 year course. Qualifies you to teach Class 1-5. Available in DIETs and private colleges.

Graduation + B.Ed (for Upper Primary)

Complete any graduation + 2 year B.Ed. This qualifies you for Paper 2 (Class 6-8 teaching).

Choose Your Subject

Paper 2 has subject-specific section: Maths/Science OR Social Studies. Choose based on your graduation subject.

Self Study: Best approach for CTET. Syllabus is well-defined. Himanshi Singh YouTube channel covers CDP completely for free.
Coaching: Not necessary. If needed: Adda247, Testbook online courses. Very affordable at ₹2,000-5,000.
Cost: Self study: ₹1,000-3,000. Online course: ₹2,000-5,000.

Exam Pattern

Understand every stage of the selection process

Stage 1

Paper 1 (Class 1-5)

150 MCQs, 2.5 hours. CDP (30), Language 1 (30), Language 2 (30), Maths (30), EVS (30). No negative marking.

Stage 2

Paper 2 (Class 6-8)

150 MCQs, 2.5 hours. CDP (30), Language 1 (30), Language 2 (30), Maths/Science OR Social Studies (60). No negative marking.

Stage 3

Qualifying Marks

60% (90/150) for General. 55% for OBC/SC/ST. CTET is qualifying — you still need to apply for teaching vacancies separately.

Stage 4

After CTET

Apply for KVS, NVS, DSSSB, State TET vacancies. CTET score + interview/written test decides selection.
